In collaboration with the Cyprus Anti-cancer Society, our colleagues from the Cyprus Institute (CyI) are organizing the Hack for a cause - AI for Safer Drug Prescriptions hackathon from 10 to 14 October 2024. The hackathon will be conducted in a hybrid format. Registration for this event is open until 3 October 2024.
The hackathon aims to develop an AI tool that utilizes patients' treatment charts—documents indicating prescribed medications, dosages, frequencies, routes, allergies, and comorbidities—along with publicly available medicine descriptions to issue high-level alerts to doctors during the prescription process. These alerts will be triggered if the tool identifies drug interactions, contraindications with the patient’s medical record, or potential overdoses.
All participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance from the CyI, acknowledging their participation and achievement in the hackathon. The winning team will be invited to deliver a guest presentation at the CyI, where they will showcase their prototype. Additionally, the winning team will be offered the opportunity to apply for summer internships at the institute, receive personalized mentorship from CyI researchers, and gain access to the institute's high-performance computing resources.
